For those who have never experienced the 15 minute free ferry ride across the Bolivar Flats between the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston, I decided to offer this short tour. I will add the dolphin when we catch them on film someday soon.

The ferry runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is operated by the Texas Highway Department. The trip takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic. Weekends in the summer can provide a two hour wait to cross when traffic is highest. In my 27 years of daily crossing there were only two times that I had to drive around (about 100 miles) due to a ship accident in the channel. Walking on is the fastest way to travel, boats leave about every 20 minutes during normal hours and slower schedule late at night. |
